Greetings from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

The best city in the best state in the best country in the world

I am a very proud Tasmanian, descended from a convict and also from the illegitimate daughter of an English baron, which means I have bloodlines from several royal bastards. For more than twenty years I worked as a journalist in newspapers, radio and TV and then started writing books, including biographies of two film stars: Errol Flynn, who was born in Tasmania, and Merle Oberon who claimed she was born here to hide her Indian heritage.

My latest book — The Catherine Code: A Thousand Years of Royal Bastards, Inbreeding and Bad Behaviour — was published in August 2023 and can be purchased from amazon.com. I have just finished another, Prince Harry’s Curse, and that is now available as a free downloadable PDF — see the Downloads page.

In the meantime, I will be posting on a variety of subjects and I welcome your feedback.

On Top of the World

Around 1960, when I was learning to swim in the tiny (11 metres)    Top of the World pool near my home in Hobart, I was vaguely aware that Tasmania is an island at the bottom of Australia and not that far from Antarctica. Many years later,  I was pleasantly surprised to see an upside down map with the Apple Isle at the apex (the name of my first boat). The pool, which was badly damaged in the 1967 bushfires, is now hidden beneath houses overlooking the River Derwent.
